In Basel, Emmanuel Perrotin turns the party up in a church

Having a party in a church? Nothing is impossible for Emmanuel Perrotin. On the sidelines of Art Basel, the gallery invited anyone who is anyone to enter the Elisabethenkirche, one of the city’s iconic monuments, for an evening where pleasure comes first. Some sixty personalities of the art scene had the rare opportunity to share a dinner in the heart of the church. For all, it was just like a holy communion. Under the church’s vaults, Daniel Arsham, Charles Carmignac, Samuel Boutruche or Guillaume Houzé took their seats at the long dinner table lit by candlelight. Everyone was ready (and eager) to live what already promised to be the event of this year’s Art Basel. Present at the fair with artists like Bernard Frize, Wim Delvoye (who both attended the dinner), Daniel Arsham or Xavier Veilhan, Emmanuel Perrotin once again showed he best knows how to transcend the fair’s primary function and offer his friends a unique experience. Still, not about to stop at a “simple” dinner, the gallery owner transformed this holy venue into a place of celebration by inviting Pedro Winter and Philippe Zdar for an exclusive DJ set. In the early hours of the night, the Elisabethenkirche filled up visibly as everyone got on the holy dancefloor on she sound of Cassius’ new tracks. After all, partying was never a sin.
