At Beautiful People, the Parisian woman lives on Tokyo time

Last March, Japanese label Beautiful People showed their collection for the first time in Paris. Hidenori Kumakiri, founder and artistic director, had so far shown his creations in Tokyo, where his 10-year-old brand already has a large following. The designer made his debut at Comme des Garçons before embarking on a solo career. To conquer Paris seems like a logical new step for the designer, who is now part of Paris Fashion Week’s official calendar. On the podium for this SS19 collection, his talent for deconstructed silhouettes came through, as did his ability to incorporate an avant-garde aesthetic into everyday clothing. It was therefore not surprising to meet influential journalists from Paris and beyond sitting front row: Caroline Issa (Tank) and Alexander Fury to name but a few, as well as Pascal Morand,President of Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode.
