Sitting front row at Issey Miyake Fall/Winter 2019

Yoshiyuki Miyamae, artistic director of Issey Miyake, presented his bright Fall-Winter 2019 collection at the Lycée Carnot in the school’s large gymnasium with high glazed ceilings. During a live show by artist Hiroko Sebu, the models walked in pairs, embodying two variations of the same silhouette built from “Dough Dough,” the signature material of the house (so-called because of its incomparable memory-ready shape). The pairs then separated and dummies created geometric shapes on the ground around the basketball court. This season the triangle was everywhere thanks to a textile innovation, “Blink,” which gives the fabric a kaleidoscope effect. Yoshiyuki Miyamae once again showed the infinite possibilities of the garment before brand devotees.
