Jodie Foster, Spike Lee and Marion Cotillard open the 74th Cannes Film Festival

The 74th Cannes Film Festival was officially inaugurated on July 6 at the Palais des Festivals after a year 2020 that left a void for all cinema lovers and professionals. This year, the American filmmaker Spike Lee takes on the role of President of the Jury, along with actresses Maggie Gyllenhaal and Melanie Laurent, singer Mylène Farmer or French actor Tahar Rahim. For their first “montée des marches”, the jury was accompanied by the cast of “Annette”, Leos Carax’s film which opened the official selection. Marion Cotillard, Angèle and Adam Driver all went up the red carpet to start things off. Highlight of the evening: Jodie Foster received an honorary Palme d’Or for her career from the hands of Pedro Almodóvar. In her speech, the American actress remembered her first Festival in Cannes, at the age of 16 for ‘Taxi Driver’ by Martin Scorsese – which won the Palme d’Or forty-five years ago … In impeccable French, the actress summed up in one sentence the general mood on the Croisette that night: “It’s good to finally go out!” Here’s a an exclusive insight at the best red carpet looks.
