Artcurial puts Martin Margiela in the spotlight

2019 is a symbolic year in the history of Maison Martin Margiela: it corresponds both to the brand’s 30th anniversary and marks a decade since its founder’s departure. Artcurial, the Parisian auction house, is dedicating an auction entirely to his work: a world first. More than 200 rare and emblematic pieces will go on sale online, through March 11th. Collectors and fashion obsessives will be able to acquire pieces from the private wardrobes of Kristina de Coninck (muse of the designer), Marina Faust (his collaborator), or Quidam de Revel (antique dealer). The sale focuses on the period when Martin Margiela was at the helm of his namesake label, and traces twenty years of work between those first and last collections. These include his supermarket top bag (Spring/Summer 1990), his “Fragile” pumps (Spring/Summer 2006), and his duvet coat with removable sleeves (Spring/Summer 2000). It’s rare access to the enigmatic spirit of Martin Margiela himself.
