Presentation of the Meurice Prize for Contemporary Art 2015/2016

The 8th edition of the Meurice Prize for Contemporary Art rewarded last night the artist Saâdane Afif and her Gallery Mehdi Chouakri.

As every year, the jury met around a short list of six projects competing for the Prize, endowed with 20,000 euros. Faithful to the position, the godfather of the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Prize accompanied a particularly prestigious chair composed of Montse Aguer, Colette Barbier, Nicolas Bourriaud, Philippe Dagen, Jennifer Flay, Mark Geffriaud, Marta Gili, Jean de Loisy, Henri Loyrette as well as the artist and winner 2014/2015 Mark Geffriaud and Franka Holtmann, General Manager of the Hotel Le Meurice.

Saâdane Afif’s project, called’Das Ende der Welt’ (The End of the World), will film the performance of a musical piece for choir and drums, commissioned by the artist from Augustin Maurs as part of his exhibition at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin. This musical composition, which follows a narrative and figurative framework, represents the idea of a panic scene that would be a few moments before the end of the world.
