Screening “The Gate of Paradise” with Melinda Gloss

If there were American westerns abused by critics in the New Hollywood era,””Heaven’s Gate” in its original version is certainly the most mocked flop of its kind. Collateral damage, the failure of the feature film signed the bankruptcy of its producing entity, the United Artists. But the evolution of cinematographic thought has meant that today, the film enjoys a considerable reputation among cinephiles and its flag bearers.

A few months after the screening of “The Strange Creature of the Black Lake” in New Latina, Carlotta Films and Melinda Gloss invited a hundred scholars to discover or rediscover Michael Cimino’s disputed masterpiece in the presence of his main actress, Isabelle Huppert. An event which, you will concede, was well worth a cocktail.
