Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh present their creative powerhouse at Gagosian Paris

While the names of Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh alone always guarantee a frenetic craze, their first collaborative exhibition at Gagosian London already gave a glimpse of how big their impact can be when they join forces. One is already a huge household name in the international contemporary art scene, and the other has quickly grown to become one of the most sought-after creatives of the fashion industry, and was recently hired by Louis Vuitton as creative director of their menswear lines. Both are animated by the desire to create and to reflect on our contemporary times. Right on time for Paris Men’s Fashion Week, only one day after Virgil Abloh’s very first fashion show for Louis Vuitton, the two inseparable artists presented their new collaborative works as part of their exhibition “Technicolor 2” at Gagosian Paris. It was enough to bring together some of Paris’ most influential personalities, from Carine Roitfeld to Gaia Repossi and Haider Ackermann, to artists Katharina Grosse and Brian Donnelly (Kaws). Around Gagosian Paris director Jean-Olivier Despres, Murakami and Abloh were definitely in a playful mood. On the gallery walls, Murakami’s smiling flowers meet Virgil Abloh’s four-point arrow logo, while the “Life Itself” greenhouse-like structure welcomes a three-dimensional iteration of the flower under its walls. #MurakamiandAbloh once again hit the nail on the head.
