After giving carte blanche to artist Mircea Cantor, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature invited Théo Mercier to dialogue with its collections. Just ten years ago, the young relatively-unknown artist presented his first solo exhibition there: the museum had entrusted him with a room on the top floor, but now Théo Mercier was granted the ground floor and first floor for an exhibition that questions the notion of nature’s domestication by humans. Théo Mercier made a name for himself with works like “Solitaire,” and since 2014 he has become known for his staging work. His latest production, “Affordable Solution for Better Living,” a collaboration with Steven Michel, earned him the Silver Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. With his piece “Every stone should cry,” the artist presents a cabinet of curiosities: a mixture of collected objects, works and new productions that constitute a “museum of artificial history” where the balance of power between man and animal is disturbed, often humorously. Juliette Armanet, Mathieu Mercier and Colette Barbier roamed the corridors of the museum to check out the intriguing exhibition.
