Renzo Piano X Max Mara : inspired “architexture”

In homage to New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, designed by Renzo Piano, Max Mara asked the architect’s studio to re-imagine their signature bag, the Whitney, launched back in 2015. Inspired by the museum’s facade, the bag has been an allegory of its art collections from the get go. The bag’s moulded leather connects in subtle piping that resonate with the building structure, while the inside silk takes inspiration from a 1931 painting by artist Florine Stettheimer, “Sun”. This figurative floral painting contrasts with the architectural rigor of the bag. Now available in a renewed color palette (we love the grapefruit pink), the Whitney bag is the perfect fit for a colorful summer.
