Kidrobot X The Met Museum : Art for everyone

By creating this childlike figure in the early 2000s, Paul Budnitz may have just wanted to put a little fun into an oh so serious contemporary art scene. And still, without knowing it, the artist managed to create a veritable tsunami from his own garage by allowing contemporary art appeal as much to children than to grown-ups. Budnitz since became a true cool culture icon, and the Kid Robot has become a legend by being sold in ’blind boxes’ that cultivated the element of surprise both for the person offering it and the one receiving it as a gift. To celebrate this little icon, the Met Museum in New York (which celebrates their 150 year-anniversary) has produced a series of 6 originals bearing some of the most iconic motifs in art: Hokusai, Van Gogh or Mondrian are some of the examples. Put on sale for a few days, the pieces are already selling like hot cakes on Kidrobot.com
