Opening of the exhibition “HIP-HOP, from the Bronx to the Arab streets”
For the first time in France, Hip-Hop culture is freely exhibited at the Arab World Institute. An exhibition event orchestrated, among others, by rapper Akhenaton.
Subversive, demanding, underground, megaphone of a generation: by marking the history of music, hip-hop has become a true artistic medium of social and political expression for youth. Through the exhibition”HIP-HOP, from the Bronx to the Arab streets”, the institution presided over by Jack Lang highlights the protean codes that have created this part of contemporary culture: music, writing, graffiti, tag, dance, fashion, photography and cinema.
A cross-border emulation, from the United States to France, through the countries of the Arab world, celebrated today in Paris through the selection of a hundred historical works gathering archival documents, in an original scenography spread over nearly 1000 m2. Also along the way, unpublished works by major graffiti artists such as onOne, Evol, Jay One, Meen One and Yazan Halwani are presented to the public, supported by the indispensable soundtrack designed by Thierry Planelle.
Also worth noting: an exceptional concert organised on 19 June in partnership with the Paris Hip-Hop Festival, as well as a series of conferences, meetings, dedications and workshops will punctuate the life of the exhibition.
