François Civil’s passion for acting began at a young age when he enrolled in theater classes at the studio Le Magasin. In 2005, he made his debut with a small part in the comedy film Le Cactus, and he went on to appear in various television series, including the Disney Channel France teen sitcom Trop la Classe! (2006). Two years later, his acclaimed role in the independent drama film Soit je meurs, soit je vais mieux (2008) earned him a nomination for the Lumières Award for Most Promising Actor and a pre-nomination for the César Award for Most Promising Actor in 2009. Since then, François Civil has continued to impress audiences and critics alike, appearing in a wide range of projects, from the British-Irish black comedy Frank (2014) to the American horror film As Above, So Below (2014). In more recent years, he played numerous acclaimed roles in films such as The Wolf’s Call (2019), Who You Think I Am (2019), BAC Nord (2020), The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (2023) and Beating Hearts (2024), directed by Gilles Lellouche. His success has earned him two nominations for the César Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2022 and 2023, and for Best Actor in 2025. Beyond his activity in the French entertainment industry, François Civil is also a talented musician, playing bass, guitar, and piano, and has even composed the music for several short films.
