Born and raised in Paris, Juliette Binoche is one of the most internationally acclaimed and charismatic French actresses. The daughter of a sculptor and theatre director and a Polish teacher and actress, Binoche enrolled at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique to study acting, yet dropped out and received private lessons from Vera Gregh, a highly reputed drama teacher. Although she quickly made a name for herself in the French film industry, her big international breakthrough came a few years later, in 1988, thanks to her role in L’insoutenable légèreté de l’être, Philip Kaufman’s film adaptation of Milan Kundera’s classic novel. Throughout her prolific career, Binoche has worked closely with some of the most influential directors of our times like Michael Haneke, Abbas Kiarostami, Olivier Assayas and Bruno Dumont, delivering outstanding and touching performances every time. Her talent and versatility have been celebrated by numerous awards, and make her one of the three winners of 2 EFAs (European Film Awards) for Best Actress, alongside Charlotte Rampling and Isabelle Huppert. Since May 2024, the famous actress also holds the honorary title of President of the European Film Academy, appointed unanimously by all the members of the Board to succeed Agnieszka Holland.
