Known for her charismatic presence, Karin Viard’s passion for acting blossomed at the age of 14, when she participated in a theatre workshop and performed the play L’École des femmes. Determined to pursue her dreams, she enrolled at the Conservatoire in Rouen and later moved to Paris to study under the tutelage of renowned acting coaches Vera Gregh and Blanche Salant. Her breakthrough came in the early 1990s when she landed roles in the films Tatie Danielle (1990) and Delicatessen (1991), showcasing her comedic talents and captivating screen presence. Her versatility as an actress soon became evident, as she seamlessly transitioned between roles in dramas, such as La Nage indienne (1993) and Emmène-moi (1994), and successful comedies like Embrassez qui vous voudrez (2002), for which she won a César Award for Best Supporting Actress. Karin Viard has collaborated with renowned directors, including Cédric Klapisch, Costa-Gavras, and Maïwenn, displaying her exceptional ability to inhabit a wide range of characters. She was nominated 3 times for the César Award for Best Actress thanks to several powerful performances, including her role in Haut les coeurs! (1999) as a pregnant woman battling cancer, but also in Polisse (2012) and in the acclaimed La Famille Bélier (2015). Her remarkable body of work, spanning over three decades, has cemented her place as a true icon of French cinema.
