Louis Garrel is a French actor, director and screenwriter who has established himself as a prominent figure in French auteur cinema. Born in a family of renowned actors and filmmakers, Garrel began his acting career at the age of six, appearing in his father’s film Les Baisers de secours (1989). Simultaneously to his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique, his breakthrough role came in 2003 when he starred in Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers, playing the twin brother of Eva Green’s character. He has since collaborated extensively with several acclaimed French actors and directors, including Xavier Dolan, Maïwenn, Woody Allen, Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Christophe Honoré, with whom he has worked on numerous films such as Ma Mère (2004), Dans Paris (2006), and Love Songs (2007). Garrel continuously appeared in films directed by his father, such as Frontier of the Dawn (2008), Jealousy (2013) and Regular Lovers (2005), for which he earned the César Award for Most Promising Actor. In addition to his acting work, he has established himself as a director and screenwriter, directing several short films, including Mes copains (2008) and Petit Tailleur (2010). His feature directorial debut, Two Friends (2015), was nominated for the Caméra d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015.
