Mathieu Lehanneur, a French designer born in 1974, has established himself as a leading figure in the design industry. Graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI-Les Ateliers) in Paris in 2001, Lehanneur’s final graduation project, « Les Objets thérapeuthiques, » was immediately integrated into the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, showcasing his innovative approach to design. His approach, which blends science, cutting-edge technology and craftsmanship, allows him to apprehend humanity in all its complexity, creating a space where technology and nature can coexist. Among his most emblematic works are the ‘Liquid Glass’ ceramics, which recreate the movement of waves, and the ‘Inverted Gravity’ consoles, set on blown glass bubbles. Lehanneur’s designs, ranging from furniture and lighting to architectural projects and public art installations, have been widely recognized and are part of the permanent collections of prestigious institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the Design Museum in Ghent, Belgium. President of the Hyères Design Parade jury in 2019, his recent projects include the design of the Olympic torch and cauldron for the 2024 Paris Olympics, as well as an immersive installation exploring the concept of « survivalism » for the 2024 Maison&Objet design fair, where he was named Designer of the Year. Mathieu Lehanneur continuously pushes the boundaries of what design can achieve, cementing his reputation as a visionary creator.
